TEMPO.CO, Solo - Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka has finally spoken up about the books with a cover picture of his eldest son, Jan Ethes Srinaredra, which has recently sparked controversy. As widely reported, he distributed the books during his visit to Margorejo VI Elementary School in Surabaya.
Gibran, who currently serves as Solo Mayor, offered an apology. He explained that the notebooks, which featured his four-year-old son's picture on the cover, had been in print for four years.
“I apologize. The book has been in print for the past four years,” Gibran told reporters at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Office in Solo City, Central Java, on Thursday, June 13.
He also apologized if people were not pleased with the book.
Gibran visited the elementary school on Thursday, June 6, and distributed the books to the students. He went to the school after meeting with East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa at the latter’s residence.
The children welcomed his arrival and President Jokowi's eldest son distributed the books to them. The book's front cover features a photo of Jan Ethes wearing a Javanese beskap and holding a wayang, a traditional puppet, while the back cover reads SOLO.
