TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed that Antony Blinken met with President-elect Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Jordan. Blinken congratulated Prabowo directly on his victory in Indonesia’s February election.
To Prabowo, Blinken reaffirmed the United States' commitment to implementing the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also thanked Prabowo for Indonesia's support for the US proposal to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages.
Blinken and Prabowo discussed how the proposal would benefit both Israel and Palestine.
"Met with the Indonesian Defense Minister and President-Elect @prabowo, as well as @MalaysiaMFA Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Mohamad Hasan here in Jordan. We talked about the importance of Hamas accepting the ceasefire proposal that is on the table," wrote State Secretary Blinken on his X account on June 12.
Prabowo was declared the winner of Indonesia’s recent presidential election, garnering 60 percent of the vote. US President Joe Biden congratulated Prabowo on the election results in a letter delivered directly by the US Ambassador to ASEAN Yohannes Abraham, as Prabowo said in a post on social media Instagram last March.
