Ganjar Pranowo Declares Opposition to Prabowo-Gibran Govt

7 May 2024 08:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaLosing presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo stated that he would take on the role of opposition to the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government in order to uphold a check and balance mechanism for government policies.

“I will not join this government,” Ganjar said at the gathering event of the Ganjar-Mahfud campaign team in Jakarta on Monday, May 6. “But I have great respect for this administration, and we will exercise control in the right way.”

He also claimed that he had chosen to be an opposition party to demonstrate political morality. He believed that the Indonesian way of doing politics needed to improve and have integrity.

The former governor of Central Java believed that mockery among fellow citizens was not necessary because the most appropriate way to voice criticism was through parliament.

“That's the best way we can do, the appropriate actions to carry out control,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Ganjar’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election, Mahfud Md., said he would continue to fight in many ways, either through political parties or political movements.

The former coordinating minister for political, legal, and security affairs mentioned that Ganjar has a political movement outside of a political party. A political movement is not merely a political party but community organizations and the press with agendas to guide state policies.

“I am consolidating to return to the civil society which once triumphed in one line to build democracy,” he explained.

Mahfud Md. confirmed that he would return to teaching on campus to straighten out legal methods in Indonesia as the elites are currently practicing law without ethics. “I will oversee [the Prabowo-Gibran government] through the legal sector. Now we have to organize everything to save this country,” he said.
