TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Affairs (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy, claimed that the number of accidents during the 2024 Eid homecoming had decreased. Muhadjir made the claim during a Coordination Meeting on the Readiness of the Eid Homecoming Return Flow at the Jasa Marga Office at KM 70 Cikampek toll road on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
"The results of the evaluation, in general, show that this year's homecoming operation went smoothly," Muhadjir said on Thursday, April 11, 2024. However, he noted that there were still some issues that needed improvement from various aspects.
Muhadjir attributed various problems to the increase in the number of travelers. According to a survey by the Ministry of Transportation or Kemenhub, the number of Eid travelers in 2024 reached 193 million people.
Furthermore, Muhadjir also claimed that the number of accidents during the Eid homecoming had decreased. "Both the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries have decreased," he said.
According to Tempo's report, there were at least two traffic accidents that resulted in dozens of deaths during the Eid homecoming.
The first incident, a fatal accident on the contraflow lane at KM 58 of the Cikampek Toll Road on Monday, April 8, 2024, marked the 2024 Eid homecoming flow. Twelve passengers died in the accident, which also involved a bus and two cars. The accident killed 12 people.
Another accident occurred recently when a bus veered of the road at KM 370 of the Semarang-Batang toll road. The accident killed seven people and injured 15 others.
