TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that at least 132 houses and 575 people were affected by the flood that hit Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu Province at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 8. The flood caused the area to be inundated, with water levels ranging from 20 to 50 cm.

The head of the BNPB's Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that this was caused by extreme rain.

"The disaster affected at least 132 family heads or 575 residents. In terms of material losses, 132 houses were affected," Abdul said in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, April 9.

According to reports from the BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops), two subdistricts in Kepahiang Regency were affected by flooding, two subdistricts and three villages to be exact: Padang Lekat sub-district, Karang Endah sub-district, Pasar Ujung village, Permu village and Permu Bawah village.

He ensured that BPBD Kepahiang Regency together with all related elements immediately went to the site to collect data and help residents evacuate.

"As of now, the floods in Kepahiang Regency are reported to be gradually receding," Abdul said.

The BNPB has appealed to the people of Kepahiang Regency to remain vigilant as there is still a possibility of heavy rains in Bengkulu Province based on the BMKG weather forecast.
