TEMPO.CO, Pontianak - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated the duplication of the Kapuas I Bridge in Pontianak City. He expected the new bridge to ease the traffic congestion that has often occurred between East Pontianak and Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province.
“This 430-meter long and nine-meter wide bridge was built with a budget of Rp275 billion,” the President said in his speech at the inauguration of the bridge in Pontianak City on Thursday, March 21.
The construction project of the bridge commenced in 2022 with the State Budget totaling Rp275.7 billion and the Pontianak Regional Budget of Rp40 billion. Hence, the total funds spent on the construction of the bridge amounted to Rp316 billion.
Acting West Kalimantan Governor Harisson said that the bridge would be open to the public immediately after the inauguration ceremony at 4 p.m. East Indonesian Time (WIT).
“We still have homework to do because the exit road from this bridge remains narrow and needs to be widened immediately so that the traffic jam is completely resolved. We hope that the construction can start next year to ensure smooth mobility of vehicles,” said Harisson.
