TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Despite Apple's status as a prestigious technology brand, in terms of artificial intelligence, or AI, the iPhone still lags behind smartphones made by Samsung and even Google. In order to stay in the race, Apple does not rule out the possibility of establishing communication and cooperation with Google for the use of AI, Gizmochina reported on Tuesday, March 19.
The possibility of cooperation between Google and Apple in the use of AI became more apparent after Apple's GenAI experiment failed to meet initial expectations. Even Apple employees who helped program the intelligent system claimed the system failed and couldn't compete with Google.
"Apple's AI technology remains inferior to tools from Google and other competitors," an Apple employee, Gurman, said as quoted by Gizmochina on March 19.
AI capabilities that have evolved into generative models have the ability to develop synthetic data generated by events in the real world. In fact, generative AI can be used to train mobile phone engines, not to mention maintaining user privacy and structured data.
In short, generative AI can be described as a technology that makes it easier to quickly and accurately search for any information on the Internet. Samsung has incorporated the latest AI technology in the S24 series. Xiaomi also uses it on HyperOS, then Google Pixel on Android 15.
Although the iPhone is considered to be lagging behind in the development of AI, Apple's device still ranks first on the list of most popular smartphones. One reason is data security, which is always tested on the iPhone.
From what Tempo has observed, Google has indeed gained a foothold in the AI arena recently after launching the Gemini AI as a bard chatbot for Android users. The app is said to attract users seeking to enhance their experience when searching for information on the Internet.
An Apple-Google deal, if it happens, will bring major changes, and quite possibly some controversy, to the tech industry competition. Just imagine two mega tech companies joining forces and making a breakthrough in the field of AI.
So far, there has been no sign of any kind of partnership between the two tech giants. But it seems that the results of the negotiations between them will be presented by Apple, at least after holding the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this year.
