TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gibran Rakabuming Raka asked the general public to wait for certainty regarding the regulation ascertaining Indonesia's Vice President to lead the Agglomeration Council. Gibran currently leads vice presidential candidacy and is likely to be appointed as the head of the council.
"Let’s just wait for a certainty," said Gibran when met by reporters on Thursday, March 14, 202 in Central Java. He emphasized that he would not make a statement if everything were uncertain.
Previously, the Bill on Jakarta’s special status (DKJ Bill) mentioned the plan to form an agglomeration area to synchronize development with surrounding areas. In the general provisions section of the bill, it is explained that an agglomeration area unites the management of several cities and regencies with the parent city, even with different administrations.
The parent city would be Jakarta, according to this plan. Meanwhile, the agglomeration area includes Bogor Regency, Tangerang Regency, Bekasi Regency, Cianjur Regency, Bogor City, Depok City, Tangerang City, South Tangerang City, and Bekasi City.
Article 55 of the DKJ Bill states that to coordinate the spatial planning and development plans of the agglomeration area, an Agglomeration Council will be formed which will be chaired by the Vice President. Thus, the Vice President will have a strategic function in the form of coordinating the implementation of spatial planning in the Agglomeration Area.
During the 2024 election, Gibran Rakabuming is paired with Prabowo Subianto. So far, the leading duo has garnered almost 58 percent of votes.
