Indonesia Upbeat to Host Exclusive Concerts Like Singapore's Taylor Swift Show

March 7, 2024 | 11:04 pm

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Coordinating Minister for Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan believed that the country is capable of hosting exclusive music concerts that could rival Singapore, which holds a similar event with global singer, Taylor Swift.

“What Singapore gives, we'll do the same for other artists. We have to be ready to compete. If Singapore can profit, why can't we?” Luhut said at the closing of Business Matching 2024 in Sanur, Denpasar, on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Luhut explained that his side had held a meeting on the plan. In the next six months, one of the entertainment companies has been granted permission to hold such an exclusive concert.

He estimated that Singapore's exclusive contract with Swift would translate into substantial income in the form of foreign exchange, including full hotel occupancy rates for nine days in the state city.

“For two weeks, you can't go to Singapore because of a Taylor Swift show. Hotels are fully booked for nine days. Why? Because Indonesia could not host her show,” he added, without revealing details on why Swift could not visit Indonesia during her Eras tour.

Taylor Swift performed six concerts from March 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in Singapore, the only Southeast Asian destination on her Eras tour. Singapore confirmed having granted the pop superstar a grant to perform only on the island, which precipitated bitterness from other Southeast Asian nations.
