TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) reportedly instructed the postponement of the vote recapitulation, which has drawn protests from various parties, including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
The recapitulation of the vote was delayed due to inaccuracies in the Vote Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap). The KPU admitted that there was a discrepancy between the vote count from the actual count documents, Form C, from 2,325 polling stations (TPS), and the display of the vote results in Sirekap.
In his written statement on February 18, a PDIP politician Deddy Sitorus urged the Indonesian KPU to clarify the order to regional election organizers to halt the vote recapitulation process at the sub-district level.
The legislative candidate for the North Kalimantan electoral district alleged that there was a systematic effort to manipulate the votes from the 2024 election results, which he suspected was aimed at winning a seat in the House Representative Council (DPR) and bringing a political party into the Parliament.
The KPU, he added, did not consult with election participants and the DPR Commission II, which oversees domestic affairs, the state secretariat, and elections, about postponing the vote recapitulation.
Deddy stressed that the postponement of the recapitulation process is legal as long as it was due to force majeure, such as earthquakes or mass riots. Sirekap, he went on, is not an official and legal method of counting votes, and the reference for the vote count is a staggered recapitulation of C1 Forms.
"But we are informed that the suspension [of vote recapitulation] is happening all over Indonesia," he said.
Said Salahudin, the chairman of the Labor Party campaign team, also urged the KPU to review the temporary suspension of the vote recapitulation process. He emphasized that the problems with Sirekap had nothing to do with the recapitulation process.
