TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 123 polling stations in Karanganyar District, Demak have been affected by flooding. Floods swamped the area since Thursday, February 8, 2024, after the Wulan River overflowed.
The swamped polling stations spread across 13 villages. The General Elections Commission or KPU recorded 19 polling stations are flooded in Karanganyar Village, 7 in Undaan Lor, 9 in Uundan Kidul, 8 in Ngemplik Wetan, 18 in Wonorejo, 10 in Cangkring Rembang, 19 in Wonoketingal, and 15 in Cankring.
Meanwhile, the rest were partially affected by the flooding. These are Ketanjung Village with 4 swamped polling stations out of 13, 3 in Jatirejo out of 12 polling stations, 1 in Bandungrejo out of 12, 5 in Tuwang out of 10, and 5 in Ngaluran out of 29 polling stations.
KPU then proposed to postpone the voting in 108 polling stations, as relayed by the head of Central Java KPU Handi Tri Ujiono on Monday, February 12, 2024.
KPU of Demak Regency has released the decree for the postponement. “It has been decree-ed,” Handi said.
According to KPU, the decision was taken with the consideration that most of the voting groups and voters residing in the region were affected by the flooding. They are now seeking refuge in several areas.
