Indonesia and China Step Up Cooperation in AI

February 6, 2024 | 09:47 pm

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian government is committed to enhancing cooperation with China to promote the use and development of its national artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. Nezar Patria, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo), said that China is one of the strategic countries that has tangibly implemented AI technology.

“We are seeking to strengthen cooperation with China in the form of special programs for AI development,” Nezar said in an official statement on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

According to him, scientific data and machine learning are highly relevant to the development of the national AI ecosystem, which will strengthen Indonesia's position in free and active politics.

“This will surely strengthen Indonesia's position with free and active politics. We can collaborate with many countries to optimize the benefits and minimize the risks of using AI,” he added.

He also said that tens of thousands of Indonesian students are studying in China, with most of them pursuing technology-related majors.

“Earlier, Chinese Education Minister Wang Jiayi said that there are currently about 40,000 Indonesian students studying in China,” Nezar said.

Although the cooperation in the digital sector has been going on for a long time, the Kominfo Deputy Minister believed that the cooperation in the AI sector would further strengthen the bonds between the two countries.
