Prabowo Promises to Build 300 Medical Faculties, Scholarships for 10,000 Students in Fifth Presidential Debate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto, during the fifth presidential debate, said that Indonesia lacks around 140,000 doctors. Because of this, he promised to build 300 new medical faculties and send 10,000 high school graduates to study medicine abroad.
This was conveyed by Prabowo when conveying his vision, mission and work program at the presidential candidate debate at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
"We will immediately speed up overcoming the shortage of doctors in Indonesia. We are short of around 140,000 doctors and we will immediately overcome this by adding more Indonesian medical faculties," said Prabowo.
Prabowo said that currently Indonesia has 92 medical faculties in Indonesia. Because of this, he promised to build 300 medical institutions throughout Indonesia. "In the health sector, we will build modern hospitals in every district and city, and modern health centers in every village throughout Indonesia," Prabowo said.
Apart from that, Prabowo also promised to send 20,000 high school graduates to study medicine abroad. "We will also send 10,000 smart children, from high school graduates we will give scholarships abroad to study medicine and another 10,000 to study science, technology and engineering, mathematics, chemistry, biology and physics. That's when we take technology, we take science," he said.
The final presidential candidate debate for the 2024 election will be held today, Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 19:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Central Jakarta. This debate was attended by presidential candidates Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo. The theme of this debate will be education, health, employment, culture, information technology and social welfare and inclusion.
The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) on Monday, November 13, 2023, determined three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates to be participants in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Election (Pilpres).
The results of the drawing and determining the serial numbers for the 2024 presidential election participants on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar with number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka with number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md with number 3.
The KPU has also set a campaign period from 28th November 2023 to 10 February 2024, then the voting schedule is on 14th February 2024.
