TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Overseas Elections Supervisory Agency (Panwaslu) in Singapore met directly with the Indonesian diaspora in the country to disseminate the general elections regulations.

"What we do is disseminate directly with the diaspora communities," the head of Singaporean Panwaslu Nandha Handharu told Antara on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Panwaslu met with the Indonesian diaspora, especially migrant workers, and visited sports centers and other social gathering places.

Nandha said Panwaslu prioritized dissemination of the order and prohibitions during the elections, both in Indonesia and in Singapore. "For example, voters are not allowed to document their voting process, prohibited to campaign outside of the designated time and place, and the neutrality of state apparatus, the military, and police members," she said.

Meanwhile, Singapore has its own set of political rules, where its citizens are prohibited from expressing political aspirations in public, especially for foreigners living in Singapore.

"Singapore has what is called the Public Order Act, which disallows its citizens to express political aspiration without permits," Nandha said. For foreigners, she went on, political aspirations in public are entirely banned.

By understanding these rules voters are expected to abide by these orders, said Panwaslu head.

Nandha also explained that 106,515 Indonesian citizens have been listed in the final voter's list in Singapore for the election scheduled for February 11.

"That excludes the additional voters' list which is expected to reach 1,500 additional voters," Nandha concluded.
