More Rain Expected in Jakarta; BMKG Warns of Extreme Rainfall

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that light-moderate rain has begun to soak Central Jakarta and North Jakarta since 1 a.m. today, Feb. 1, and is expected to linger until around 1 p.m. local time.
According to the agency’s weather forecast, the Thousand Islands have even experienced rain since 7 p.m. on Wednesday, which will last for the next 18 hours.
Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, and Thousand Islands will have cloudy skies starting from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, while West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta will be hit by rain after Wednesday’s gloomy weather.
The city’s air temperature is likely ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celcius, with a humidity level of between 80 and 100 percent. Winds are expected to blow from the west to northwest at a speed of 10-20 kilometers per hour.
Dwikorita Karnawati, the head of BMKG, previously confirmed that Indonesia would enter the peak of the rainy season at the end of January 2024 and that it would last until March 2024. Although there was no possibility of anomalies, she called on the public to be wary of extreme rainfall.
“There is a possibility of extreme rainfall,” she said at Gedung Sate in Bandung on Tuesday, January 30.
