Gibran Says License of Illegal Miners Must be Revoked During Vice Presidential Debate

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka responded to a question about illegal mining during the latest vice presidential debate last evening. As per debate rules, Gibran was allowed to respond to the question initially given to his rival and vice presidential candidate number 3, Mahfud Md.
"Illegal mining and fisheries, as well as illegal logging are still rampant. This has caused ecological damage on land and at sea, not to mention social injustices. What are the strategies the running presidential pair proposes to tackle the illegal practices to achieve sustainable natural resources?" the moderator asked during the debate on Sunday evening, as virtually monitored from Tempodotco's YouTube channel.
After Mahfud Md finished answering the question, Gibran responded. "Prof [Mahfud Md], we from the Prabowo-Gibran pair have a simple solution to the question. Just revoke the Mining Business License (IUP), it's simple," he remarked.
The Solo Mayor explained that the solution is in line with Article 33 (3) and (4) of the Constitution. It also embodies the spirit of principles four and five of Indonesia's philosophy Pancasila.
"We aim to utilize the natural resources for the greatest benefit of the people," he said.
Gibran Rakabuming also highlighted the obligation of the Indonesian government to act in accordance with Investment Minister Regulation No. 1 of 2022 so huge enterprises embrace local companies and MSMEs.
"So these companies do not advance alone, but also help the locals, local companies, and local MSMEs," said the oldest son of current president Joko Widodo.
