Jakarta Metro Police Assigning 4,041 Officers to Safeguard Christmas, New Year Activities

21 December 2023 12:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Metro Police will deploy 4,041 officers to secure the capital during the 2024 Christmas and New Year celebrations. Sr. Comr. Latif Usman, traffic director, said the Metro Police will safeguard activities such as homecoming traffic, celebration events, securing places of worship, and monitoring community tourism activities.

Peak traffic flow is expected to start on December 23. Security posts have been set up at several areas, especially on the Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Merak, Jakarta-Jagorawi toll roads, and main roads such as Kalimalang, Bogor via PGC Pasar Rebo, Depok via Lenteng Agung and from East Jakarta via Kalideres Daan Mogot.

"These are lanes that we are optimizing," he said on Wednesday, December 20 2023.

Latif said the police are also preparing for anticipated celebrations along the Sudirman-Thamrin roads.

"We will carry out engineering measures based on the situation. The road closures for car-free nights will start at 18:00," he said.

During the car free night closure, the busway lane will continue to operate until the HI Roundabout, as long as the number of crowds in the area and passengers is still within the limits accommodated by Transjakarta capacity.

Latif said parking spaces will be prepared at IRTI Monas, East Senayan parking lot, and office complexes that can accommodate parking. "But I hope people will come to Sudirman-Thamrin on public transportation. We will facilitate it," he said.

People from outside Jakarta such as Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang will be forbidden from convoying into the capital and asked to go back. "We don't allow convoys," Latif said, appealing to the public to celebrate Christmas and New Year in orderly manners.
