TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) Supervisory Board will hold a code of ethics hearing for inactive KPK chairman Firli Bahuri on Wednesday, December 20 at 09:00. KPK Supervisory Board member Syamsuddin Haris said the decision to hold an ethics trial was made after Firli failed to attend the scheduled trial on Thursday, December 14.
The decision, he said, was made by the KPK Supervisory Board's Council.
"The session on the 20th was the decision of the Supervisory Board, not [Firli Bahuri's] will," Haris told Tempo on Friday, December 15.
Haris said nothing when asked if the Honorary Council decision was related to Firli's request to have the trial held after December 18, 2023.
Previously, KPK Supervisory Board member Albertina Ho stated that the ethics trial scheduled by the board's council for the coming week would still be held. "If Mr. Firli Bahuri does not appear at the summons on December 20, the trial will still continue," Albertina said on Thursday, December 14.
As previously reported, Firli had asked the KPK Supervisory Board to postpone the initial hearing of his alleged ethical violations. He reasoned that he was still undergoing a pretrial hearing at the South Jakarta District Court regarding his status as a suspect in a bribery case.
"[Firli Bahuri] asked for the ethics trial to be held after December 18, 2023," Syamsuddin Haris had said on Thursday, 14 December.
At the time, Syamsuddin also said that the Board would consider the request and rearrange the session schedule. Nevertheless, the initial trial last week would still be held. "The session will remain open for the Supervisory Board to decide on a replacement schedule. That's how it usually works," he said.
Syamsuddin added that as the person being brought to court, Firli Bahuri must appear at the hearing for the ethical violations charges against him.
