TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi conducted a field inspection on the construction of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A in the Monas area, Gambir, Central Jakarta on Friday, December 15, 2023. Jokowi mentioned about the difficulties in the project, albeit its progress has exceeded the target.
The project includes building two tunnels connecting Bundaran HI-Thamrin Station and Thamrin-Monas Stations, as well as two tunnels connecting Monas Station and Harmoni Station.
“[Progress] has reached 28.4 percent against a target of 27 percent. I think this is good,” he praised in a statement.
Phase 2A will cover 5.8 kilometers with seven underground stations, namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota, with depths ranging from 17 meters to 36 meters.
The longest station will be Thamrin Station with a length of 455 meters, of which 200 meters will be developed as a commercial area. It will also connect the east and west lines of the urban train. All stations will be integrated with Transjakarta bus stops.
The tunnel from Bundaran HI Station to Harmoni Station and from Glodok Station to Kota Station will be parallel, similar to Phase 1. Meanwhile, the tunnel connecting Harmoni Station and Glodok Station will be stacked so that Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar stations will be four levels underground.
President Jokowi also mentioned that the MRT Jakarta Phase 2B project would later start from Kota Tua to Ancol, which is expected to be completed by 2027. “This is not an easy job because the work must be done amidst the hustle and bustle of Jakarta. Building the tunnels is not easy either.”
