Ganjar Pranowo Talks on Resolving Unemployment During Presidential Debate

13 December 2023 13:02 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo answered Prabowo Subianto's question on solving unemployment issues in Indonesia. According to him, unemployment will be solved by developing investments to support transparent and accountable legal enforcement and legal certainty.

"Legal certainty and enforcement is needed to ensure an easy, cheap, and swift investment," he said during the presidential debate on Tuesday evening.

The debate was initiated by the General Elections Commission or KPU and was live-streamed on various national television stations.

According to Ganjar, investment growth could be achieved by, amongst others, developing industrial areas such as ones in Kendal and Batang, as well as facilitating tax incentives for investors.

Kendal Industrial Park has cooperated with more than 100 vocational schools, as is prepared for Batang Industrial Park. "If implemented, we must prepare the human resources, ensuring 12 years of tuition-free vocational school," Ganjar said.

Additionally, to resolve unemployment, Ganjar proposed that lowering the number of poverty-ridden households was necessary. His team backed the "One Poor Family, One Bachelor" meaning "one kid from poverty-ridden households must become a bachelor to provide more employment opportunities."

Ganjar added that a collaboration between the central government and regional government is needed. "The regional [government] role is critical," he said.

KPU held the first presidential debate last night in Jakarta with the themes of governance, law, human rights, corruption eradication, strengthening democracy, strengthening public services, and public harmony.

The debate was participated by all three running presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo, Prabowo Subianto, and Anies Baswedan. The presidential debate will be resumed on Dec. 22, 2023, Jan. 7, 2024, Jan. 21, 2024, and Feb. 4, 2024.
