TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the government is preparing a Presidential Regulation regarding the Tourism Fund. This regulation is targeted to be completed by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
“However, the operation is estimated to take place in the middle of next year,” Sandiaga said at his office on Monday, Dec. 11.
The Tourism Fund is a special tourism fund to help promote tourism events and improve the nation’s branding in the eyes of the world. The government through the Finance Ministry will provide the fund.
Sandiaga added that the government has allocated at least Rp2 trillion to be disbursed for the first phase, hoping that with this Tourism Fund, the target of 14 million foreign tourist visits by 2024 could be achieved.
Regarding the economic impact, he said that the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry would curate events to be held so that they would create employment opportunities and realize the welfare of local communities.
Aside from the preparation of the Presidential Decree on Tourism Fund, Sandiaga said the ministry has proposed a visa-free entry policy for 20 countries that contribute a high number of foreign tourist visits. He said the plan would be discussed with the Director General of Immigration.
The 20 countries include Australia, China, India, South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
“We hope this can increase foreign tourist visits in line with the 2024 goal, which is between 12 million and 15 million visits with a ceiling of 14 million visits,” Sandiaga Uno said.
