TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Health Ministry reported that six cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae were found in Jakarta.
The Ministry's Disease Prevention and Control DG Maxi Rein Rondonuwu stated that the cases were found in two different hospitals in Jakarta, Medistra Jakarta Hospital and JWCC Mother and Child Hospital.
However, Maxi confirmed that all the patients have recovered.
"Two days ago, we received a report and we have confirmed that there were six patients of Mycoplasma pneumoniae treated at two hospitals," Maxi said during an online press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The first case was found on Oct. 12, and then again on Oct. 25, and the middle on November.
"Two patients were treated at Medistra, one in JWCC, and the others were outpatient.
All cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae were found in children aged 3 to 12 years old. The symptoms were coughing, runny nose, headache, and a mild case of shortness of breath.
The Health Ministry will conduct a follow-up investigation to inspect the spreading of this disease, including inspecting the former patient's school and home environment.
"The epidemiological investigation must be conducted to allow us to intervene," Maxi said.
Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Maxi explained, was not a new disease. "Before COVID-19, the incidents of Mycoplasma pneumoniae reached 8.5 percent," he said. However, there was a recent spike in China.
The ministry encouraged the public to implement a healthy lifestyle to avoid being infected. "Mask is mandatory if you have the symptoms of coughing and runny nose," he concluded.
