Indonesia-UAE Explores Partnership to Develop Kertajati Airport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi met with The UAE Minister of Energy and Transportation Suhail Mohammed Al Mazroei, and the CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports Sheikh Mohammed. The meeting was part of Minister Budi's working visit to Abu Dhabi, Uni Arab Emirates.
During this meeting, Budi Karya offered Abu Dhabi Airports to become the strategic partners in the development of the West Java International Airport (BIJB) or Kertajati Airport.
"[Offer] to develop the Kertajati Airport in partnership with BIJB and PT Angkasa Pura II as the management of Kertajati Airport," Budi Karya said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023.
Minister Budi Karya explained that Kertajati Airport was recently developed to replace Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, West Java. The grand design of this airport includes a cargo village facility, maintenance, repair, and overhaul or MRO, and commercial areas.
The airport was also projected to become the second biggest airport in Indonesia after the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta with potential markets for tourism, cargo, aero-city, as well as Umrah and hajj pilgrimages.
"Kertajati Airport will open the opportunity for strategic partners to purchase our shares up to 49 percent," he said.
Budi Karya and Minister Suhail also explored the collaboration potential between airlines in Indonesia and the UAE in creating a joint venture company.to serve the domestic aviation market.
Meanwhile, Minister Suhail expressed his interest in investing and exploring more collaboration potential with Indonesia in the transportation sector.
