TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to evacuate three citizens volunteering at the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip to Egypt. The ministry’s citizen protection director, Judha Nugraha, said the evacuation was still being coordinated with the Indonesian Embassies in Cairo and Amman.
“We are trying to evacuate them as soon as possible,” Judha said on Thursday evening, November 23.
The three citizens are Fikri Rofiul Haq, Reza Aldilla Kurniawan, and Farid Zanzabil Al Ayubi. According to the humanitarian organization MER-C, they have been evacuated from the Indonesian Hospital, which was recently attacked by the Israeli forces.
They are currently in southern Gaza, waiting to be evacuated through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Judha said the evacuation process was complex just like the two previous evacuations of Indonesian citizens. The ministry would take advantage of the humanitarian pause agreed between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas group, which would begin today.
Previously, the three Indonesians chose to stay in Gaza, albeit amid the humanitarian crisis to carry out humanitarian missions in the enclave. “However, in light of the deteriorating situation, they finally decided to be evacuated. The ministry coordinated with Mer-C Jakarta to respond immediately to the request,” Judah added.
He made sure that the three citizens were safe and in good condition.
On Thursday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the Israeli army demanded the evacuation of the Indonesian Hospital within four hours as it was about to launch ‘military operations’.
Earlier reported, Israel bombed the Indonesian Hospital hours before the agreed temporary ceasefire started. Israel justified its attack by accusing Hamas of hiding its command center in a tunnel under the hospital.
