Indonesia and China Enhance Digital Cooperation to Face New Technologies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and China agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the digital sector. This includes research and technology development, as well as improving the competence and skills of digital human resources.
Budi Arie Setiadi, the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo), confirmed this bilateral cooperation after meeting with the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Secretary of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology (CAST), He Junke, at the Kominfo Ministry Building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023.
According to Budi Arie, both countries have established various collaborations as the opportunities are wide open. This latest cooperation aims to address challenges in the use of new technologies and the digital sector.
“I hope that this series of cooperation can become a momentum to strengthen ties in various sectors,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday.
He stressed that China is one of Indonesia's largest trading partners. In 2022, the value of Chinese investment in the archipelago reached US$8.2 billion, while the trade value amounted to US$133 billion.
Therefore, the Kominfo Minister encouraged cooperation in the application of artificial intelligence (AI), digital finance, digital health, digital government, and smart city development technologies. He also encouraged collaboration between business people, academics, and the community to support the movement toward 100 smart cities in Indonesia.
“We are open to ideas and potential for future cooperation,” Budi Arie remarked.
The Indonesia-China bilateral meeting was also attended by the China Communication Institute, ZTE Indonesia, the Indonesian Telematics Society, and Telkom University.
