TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) said that first-time and young voters will dominate the 2024 general elections in Jakarta.

The information was relayed in a talk show called "Youth for the Nation: Abstaining is Uncool" by KPU Jakarta at Universitas Al Azhar Indonesia on Wednesday. According to the press release, around 200 college students attended the discussion.

KPU Jakarta in the socialization division Astri Megatari asked the students to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general elections. "First-time and young voters will constitute 50 percent of voters in Jakarta," she said.

Astri also explained the meaning of the five colors of the ballots. First, the grey ones would be used to vote for the president and vice presidential candidates. Second, the yellow ballots are used to elect the House of Representatives (DPR) candidates.

Third, the red ballots are for DPD candidates. Next, the blue ballots are intended for Provincial DPRD, while the green ballots will have the candidates of Regency/City DPRD Candidates on them.

However, Jakarta voters will not get the green ballots since the province will not hold an election for Regency/City DPRD candidates.

The Coordinator for the Parliamentary Representation Division at the Indonesian Parliamentary Center Arif Adiputo said the students must get to know the running candidates, including their visions and missions.

"KPU provides the profile on these candidates that could be accessed at https://infopemilu.kpu.go.id/," he said.
