TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that investment must be beneficial across the board from the economic, social, cultural, and environmental perspectives. Indonesian people, he added, must also reap the benefits of investment.

"For example, through the involvement of local workers and MSMEs, conducting knowledge and technology transfer, and [investment] must be harmonious with the environment and the earth," Ma'ruf said in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 8.

Ma'ruf also mentioned that each region must develop its own potential sector to create a multiplier effect for the local economy, including realizing economic equality in Indonesia.

Furthermore, the VP hoped the huge investment potential in the halal sector could be developed. Several Chinese investors have also expressed their interest in investing in this sector. According to Ma'ruf, the halal industrial area must be turned into a special economic zone (KEK) to broaden its investment opportunities.

Vice President Ma'ruf also said that bolstering investment realization is a main theme in bureaucracy reformation. "Thus, the ministries and relevant agencies must focus on improving investment climate and the management and bureaucratic reform," he concluded.
