TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chair of PDIP (Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle) Megawati Soekarnoputri announced Mahfud MD as the vice presidential candidate of Ganjar Pranowo. Megawati mentioned that Mahfud MD has concrete experience in the government.
Mahfud MD is currently acting as the Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
"The vice presidential candidate that will accompany Mr. Ganjar Pranowo is Mr. Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD," Megawati said during the declaration at the PDIP Office in Central Jakarta today, Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
During the declaration, Megawati was accompanied by Acting Chair of PPP M. Mardiono, Chief of Perindo Hary Tanosoedibjo, and Chair of Hanura Party Oesman Sapta Odang. This declaration is announced a day before the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates tomorrow at the General Election Commission.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto stated that today is a critical momentum for the elites supporting Ganjar Pranowo as presidential candidate. Ganjar's vice presidential candidate will fight together with the politician for a prosperous Indonesia.
Hasto also announced that Ganjar and Mahfud will welcome the declaration along with the youths this evening at the National Archive Building in West Jakarta.
"[With] the youths, millennial figures, and Gen Z," Hasto said to reporters today. However, he did not provide the details on what time the event will start.
During the declaration tonight, Hasto said, Ganjar Pranowo and his vice presidential candidate will affirm their commitment to a future that will stand by the nation's history.
