TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in London hosted Indonesian Night for the second time this year on October 5, 2023. The event was held at a historical site in the city, the Westminster Central Hall for 2.5 hours. Indonesian A-listers Tulus and Lea Simanjuntak enliven the stage during the event.
The embassy in a statement explained that more than 1,300 Indonesian nationals and locals participated in Indonesian Night 2023. The event was also dubbed as a diplomatic reception between governments.
Guest of Honor MP Richard Graham, UK PM's Trade Envoy to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and ASEAN, expressed his appreciation for the good relationship between Indonesia and the UK. "Indonesian and the UK is a marriage of two countries. It is the most compatible marriage," Graham said.
Indonesian Night gathers Indonesian art professionals across the boards to showcase and promote Indonesian cultures through dance, wastra (traditional fabric), and melodies. The event was inaugurated by a performance from Gamelan Lila Cita, a local music group that regularly performed Balinese traditional and contemporary music. In addition, a dance performance from the Balinese community in the UK, Banjar Bali Ring UK, and the Lila Bhawa group was showcased.
The elegance of Indonesian traditional fabric was exhibited through a fashion show, Swarna Dwipa, which showcased the collaboration between two first-rate Indonesian designers, Ayu Dyah Andari and Chossy Latu. Along with their South Sumatran MSMEs partners the show exhibited 20 fits with the theme of "Tujuh Saudara" and "Nirmala".
Meanwhile, Paguyuban Citra presented Lea Simanjuntak to perform with Music Director Trias Anugrah and Choreographer Ari Tulang. During the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Indonesian Ambassador Desra accompanied the Indonesian singer with a saxophone. Tulus also performed a number of his hits during Indonesia Nights, inviting the attendees to sing along.
