TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former senior investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK, Novel Baswedan, said that basically, all of the president and legislator candidates in the 2024 Election must show a clear attitude regarding efforts to improve corruption eradication that is currently deteriorating.
Novel explains that corruption not only affects development and injustice but it spreads everywhere and the impact is extraordinary. “Commitment to eradicating corruption in the future is very important,” said Novel Baswedan when met after a 2nd Dies Natalis of IM57+ Institute at Usmar Ismail Film Center Building, South Jakarta on Friday, Sept. 29.
Previously in a talkshow with Mata Najwa a few weeks ago, 3 presidential candidates were arguing about strategies for eradicating corruption in Indonesia. Ganjar Pranowo as the presidential candidate supported by PDIP has offered to revise the Corruption Eradication Committee Law which is considered to weaken the anti-corruption agency.
Whoever the elected leaders, said Novel, they must be able to demonstrate and be highly committed to making eradicating corruption a strategic issue. Apart from that, eradicating corruption is the state's duty.
Novel asked them to prepare for new ways to strengthen corruption eradication efforts when there are parties who wish for the KPK to be disbanded. Moreover, when there is a conflict of interest when handling a corruption case, Novel said it is dangerous.
"Corruption in the political and law enforcement sectors is what is important to fix first," said Novel Baswedan.
