TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The provincial government of Jakarta is currently evaluating the operational management of Transjakarta and its feeder vehicles. Jakarta is planning to adapt Transjakarta's operational hours to the passenger traffic level.
The Economic and Financial Assistant to Jakarta's Regional Secretariat Sri Haryati stated that the government is reexamining the hourly need of Transjakarta and its third-party-owned vehicles.
The evaluation is conducted due to the number of Transjakarta that operate without passengers. "Why are there so many empty buses operating?" Sri said in a regional budget review meeting as quoted from the official website of DPRD Jakarta on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The operational hours of Transjakarta are affecting the size of the subsidy from the government.
According to Sri, the operational hours of Transjakarta have to be adapted to the level of passenger traffic for the subsidy to be efficient and precise. "The buses have to operate at peak hour, but after it passed, the buses shall be pulled from operation," she said.
The purpose of this policy is to ease the burden of the Transjakarta rupiah per kilometer fee on the provincial government of Jakarta.
"We are conducting an examination on the issue of optimization and the improvement of Transjakarta's efficiency and we will report on the result," Sri concluded.
