TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said that tickets are not the main target for emissions tests. The government of Jakarta will seek other ways to enforce the emissions test policy for vehicles that failed or have not done the test.
"We will discuss [the measure] later. The main point is emissions test," he said on Monday, September 11, 2023, as quoted from Antara.
Previously, the Jakarta Metro Police halted emissions test tickets, deeming it ineffective.
The policy was implemented with the intention to raise awareness and encourage people to conduct emissions tests on their vehicles in order to control air pollution. "Implementing ticketing needs energy and time, so we will seek a more efficient way [to enforce emissions test]," Heru said.
The head of air pollution control of Jakarta Metro Police Sr. Comsr. of Police Nurcholis said that over 850 vehicles failed emissions tests from September 1 to 7, 2023. Out of those vehicles, 66 were given tickets, while the rest were asked to conduct vehicle service at workshops.
"The 66 vehicles were given tickets on September 1 since there was no task force yet, and after we deemed it ineffective, the task force recommended the failed vehicles to be serviced at workshops with the help from dealers," Nurcholis said.
The emissions test ticket program fined motorcycle users Rp250,000 for failing the test. Meanwhile, car users were fined Rp500,000.
