TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Visitors flood Jakarta Fair 2023, better known as Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ), to hunt for discounted household items. The annual event is held to celebrate the anniversary of Jakarta, which began on June 24 to July 16, 2023.
Yulianti Suwarsih (39), a visitor from South Tangerang said that this is her second time visiting PRJ. On her first visit, she and her husband surveyed potential household items to buy, such as beds, clothes, cosmetics, and tools. "I expected more last-minute discounts," she told Tempo on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Yuli visited PRJ with her husband and cousins. "We plan to buy the bed we saw at our previous visit after this, just waiting on the transaction," she said.
For Yuli, this event is a goldmine for cheap items, compared to prices in other marketplaces. One of the items she got for more than 50% discount in PRJ is her Rp17,000 lipstick. "There is a difference in prices and it's cheaper here. I'm glad for PRJ," she added.
However, Yuli saw a decline in PRJ visitors this year, as concluded from some of the tenants in the JIExpo area, Central Jakarta.
Tempo observed a crowd in the food area from Gate 9 of PRJ, but no congestion. For food lovers, PRJ is a destination to hunt for snacks. Including kerak telor, a Jakartan traditional food which can be found in some of the food stalls in the outside area.
Another visitor, Leni (25), visited the Jakarta fair or PRJ on a bandwagon. "Since it blew up on TikTok, I don't want to miss out, and I plan to buy some cute accessories," she said. According to Leni, the prices of accessories also dropped significantly.
