TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Bina Marga Roads Agency stated that road repairs had been carried out at several points ahead of the ASEAN Summit. The Jakarta government's main focus is to repair roads in Central Jakarta and South Jakarta, but a number of roads in East Jakarta are also being repaired.
The road repair process is targeted to be completed quickly. Bina Marga Jakarta Agency's acting head Heru Suwondo said that the provincial government is targeting the road repair process to be completed by August 2023, before the capital hosts the 43rd ASEAN Summit in early September.
"So we hope that everything will be finished in August, everything will be in tip top shape," Heru said at the City Hall on Monday, July 3.
Some of the roads Bina Marga is currently repairing include Thamrin, Sudirman, Medan Merdeka, Gatsu, and MT Haryono, Heru added. Heru declined to say how much was the budget for road revitalization, saying he did not have the data with him, and asked reporters to address the question to Bina Marga's head of Road Department.
As chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2023, Indonesia becomes host of two ASEAN Summits this year. The 42nd ASEAN Summit had taken place in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara from May 9 to 11. The 43rd ASEAN Summit is set to be held in Jakarta from September 5 to 7.
