TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Complex Management, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, asserted that the grass on the main stadium field is good and well-maintained. He denied reports that the grass was damaged after the Bung Karno anniversary event held by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
“I’d like to clarify that because we apply good SOPs, [including] use world-class base covers, there are no significant problems to the field,” Rakhmadi said on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
He explained that the grass field is always covered at any event except football matches. However, circulating pictures showed and narrated that the grass was damaged due to the party’s mass event.
According to him, the photos were taken at night after the event when officers and event organizers were clearing up the equipment.
The stadium management then immediately fixed the grass. “That's why I regret that the news is not yet confirmed, we are not asked, and suddenly it's [viral] like that,” Rakhmadi said.
He emphasized that the management has always taken care of the stadium facilities, especially the grass field according to the maintenance standards.
He ensured that the football match between Persija Jakarta and PSM Makassar could take place on July 2, 2023, as he had communicated with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), PT Liga Indonesia Bersatu, and Persija Jakarta. This is in response to rumors that based on the evaluation results of the PDIP event, the match is not recommended at the GBK main stadium but at the Bung Karno Madya Stadium.
He said this is still being discussed internally. “We will mitigate with all possibilities,” he said.
The upcoming event held at the GBK main stadium will be the 77th Bhayangkara Anniversary celebrated by the National Police on July 1, 2023.
