Johnny G. Plate Indicted for Corrupting Rp17bn in Kominfo Ministry's BTS Project

27 June 2023 13:02 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaFormer minister of communication and informatics (Kominfo), Johnny G. Plate, is indicted for allegedly inflicting about Rp17 billion in the ministry’s Bakti  Base Transceivers Station (BTS) project.

The indictment was read out during the case’s first trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court today, June 27, 2023.

“The defendant Johnny Gerard Plate enriched himself with Rp17,848,308,000,” as read in a copy of the indictment seen by Tempo today.

Plate is charged under Article 35 paragraph (2) of Law No. 46 of 2009 concerning the Corruption Court.

The public prosecutor said that Plate and the other defendants cause losses to the country's finances of Rp8 trillion. This value is obtained from the audit report of the state financial losses on alleged corruption crimes in the construction of 4G BTS infrastructure and supporting infrastructure packages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 at the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Kominfo Ministry from 2020 to 2022.

The audit was conducted by the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) on April 6, 2023.
