TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Ali Fikri said the antigraft watchdog is currently looking into the alleged corruption within the Ministry of Agriculture, where Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo was allegedly embroiled in.
“This is the follow-up from reports submitted by the public that KPK received, and therefore, KPK pursues the law enforcement process,” said Ali Fikri on June 14. He, however, was reluctant to reveal more information about the inquiry.
As reported previously, the KPK acting deputy of enforcement Sr. Comsr. Asep Guntur Rahayu confirmed that the agency’s investigators are looking into three people, with Syahrul Yasin Limpo being one of them.
“That is correct. It is still an inquiry,” said Asep to Tempo on June 14. KPK has yet to conduct a search or issue an investigation warrant. “The law does not authorize a forceful act [of search, among others]. So, it’s impossible to conduct a search.”
Apart from Syahrul, it is reported that the KPK will also appoint the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono and Director of Agricultural Machinery Equipment Muhammad Hatta. The three will likely face charges of corruption and money laundering.
