Anies Baswedan, AHY Meet and Discuss State Issues in East Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party chairperson Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono also known as AHY, invited future presidential candidate Anies Baswedan to an East Java trip to Pacitan. Pacitan is the hometown of AHY’s father and former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. 

Their brief culinary trip in the region was accompanied by party members of the Coalition of Change (Koalisi Perubahan) comprising of NasDem Party, the Democratic Party, and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

Anies and AHY were both seen having lunch with Democratic Party spokesperson Herzaky Mahendra Putra, PKS spokesperson Pipin Sopian, PKS deputy Shura Council Sohibul Iman, and the coalition’s member Sudirman Said.

AHY posted this trip on his social media account on Friday, June 2, 2023 where he could be heard saying "It’s a great pleasure to invite Anies Baswedan to a culinary trip and visit Bu Gandos restaurant, one of Pacitan’s destinations that offer a multitude of seafood options."

Following the brief tour, the group met with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at his home. According to the spokesperson of the Democratic Party Herzaky Mahendra Putra, the group mainly discussed the current situation related to democracy and state administrations. 

"We had long discussions, mainly talking about the worsening democracy and state administration," said Herzaky on Thursday, June 1, 2023. 

The negative perception of the group regarding the current national situation motivated the coalition to accelerate means to consolidate.
