TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Minister Hadi Tjahjanto on Wednesday urged against transforming traditional paddy field land plots in Bali into building structures. He mentioned this during an event for the Bali ‘complete systematic land registration program.’
“We should always protect paddy fields for food security, some of the certificates I gave earlier were all paddy fields, and they promised not to convert the rice fields into buildings," said the Minister on May 24.
In front of new land certificate owners at the event, Minister Hadi asserted that land certification over productive fields should help develop the local economy.
However, he said it depends on local government policy, especially if productive fields are already included in the government spatial planning.
The ATR/BPN Ministry is currently working on 2,000 detailed spatial plans (RDTRs) throughout Indonesia, although currently only 144 RDTRs have been completed. This paves the way for investors to enter the scene once an area’s RDTR is completed.
