TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission E overseeing the public welfare from the Gerindra faction, Iman Satri, assessed that access for newcomers to the capital needs to be tightened. Monitoring must also be carried out at entry points, such as stations, airports, and bus terminals.
“Not only in the subdistricts (Kelurahan), certain posts must also be guarded. If necessary, an occasional inspection should be launched,” he told Tempo, on Wednesday, April 26.
The Gerindra politician suggested that subdistrict authorities give such a work certificate to Jakarta residents before they return to their hometown in order to anticipate non-Jakartans from entering the capital.
“Do not let people who are not residents of Jakarta enter Jakarta in groups, moreover, if they do not have a destination,” Iman said.
Previously, Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono demanded Eid homecoming or mudik travelers not to bring their relatives and colleagues to Jakarta. However, he allowed newcomers to settle in the capital on condition that they have a job or certain skills.
“[Newcomers are] allowed in Jakarta, but with a job and skills that they are assigned in Jakarta. It's not prohibited,” Budi said at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 11.
Based on this order, the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil) opened up service counters up to the sub-districts level to help newcomers process administrative documents.
Head of Jakarta Disdukcapil Budi Awaludin on Monday, April 24, said that the agency has not yet decided to launch an administrative operation towards newcomers who wanted to try their luck in Jakarta.
