TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Mayor of Depok Imam Budi Hartono encouraged his residents to maintain the value of tolerance in responding to the difference on the day of Eid Al-Fitr celebration. Imam expressed his statement in accordance with the notion provided by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

"To remain tolerant and united, respecting one another in responding to different days of Eid," Imam said in Depok on Sunday, April 23, 2023, quoted by Antara.

Imam also called on the people to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr in simplicity. Imam asserted that an extravagant celebration will lead to nothing but a waste.

Imam said that the true wisdom of Eid Al-Fitr is to return to holiness after fasting for one month, holding back any wants and cravings.

"Let's celebrate Eid Al-Fitr in simplicity, hopefully Ramadan will leave its impact for the next 11 months," Imam said.

He also asked people who are financially capable to act wisely. "Don't present extravagance because it will lead to bad things," Imam said.

Previously, the Madani Muslim Network (JMM) said that the difference in the determination of Eid Al-Fitr day should be treated as a momentum to strengthen unity among Muslims.

"Being different is a normal thing and does not need to be trifled with, because every one has their own justified reasons," said the Executive Director of JMM Syukron Jamal.
