TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas announced that based on the result of the isbat meeting, the meeting to determine the first day of Shawwal's Islamic month or the Eid al-Fitr Day, the celebration day after fasting during the whole month of Ramadan 1444 Hijri will fall on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The decision was taken based on the results of hisab and rukyat methods held by the authorities and was confirmed by the officials of the Religious Affairs Ministry spread at 123 locations across the country.
"Based on the hisab method, the position of the hilal (crescent moon) across Indonesia is already above the horizon and does not meet the new criteria of MABIMS (Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore), also there is no report on hilal sighting. The isbat meeting agreed to set the first of Shawwal 1444 Hijri falls on Saturday, April 22, 2023," said Yaqut when leading the press conference at his office in Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 20.
Yaqut explained that hilal visibility is the main requirement to determine the first day of the Shawwal month. The height of the crescent moon must be 3 degrees with a 6.4 degrees elongation angle. This agreement, said Yaqut, has become a guideline for four countries and has been very moderate.
According to the results of Hisab Ruhiyat's team, the hilal in all parts of Indonesia is at 0 degrees 45 minutes to 2 degrees 21.6 minutes with an elongation angle of 1 degree 28.2 minutes to 3 degrees 5.4 minutes.
