TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Tanjung Priok Port Head Authority Subagyo on Tuesday said that the number of passengers passing the port had seen a hike of 87.38 percent between April 7-18, compared to the same period last year.
“Speaking of the total traffic reached a total of 22,850 passengers from April 7-18,” Subagyo explained. “This is far larger than 2022 which saw a total of 12,200 passengers”
However, compared to the number of passengers prior to the coronavirus pandemic, numbers are slightly lower.
Passengers of sea transportation departing through the port from April 7-18 amounted to 13,326 people, which is a 137.62 percent spike compared to the same period in 2022. Sea travelers arriving at Tanjung Priok during the same period reached a total of 9,534 people. The latter statistic is a 44.63 percent growth compared to the previous year.
This sudden growth of travelers, according to Subagyo, is driven by the Eid homecoming annual tradition during the peak Ramadan month when people travel from urban to rural areas.
