TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Free Papua Movement (OPM), which is labeled as a separatist group, has again fired at a civilian aircraft that was landing at the Beoga Airport in Central Papua on Friday, according to a police spokesperson.
As the Asian One plane flying under the callsign PK-LTF landed at 06:30 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT), gunshots were heard that had targeted the plane. Because of this, security personnel present at the site immediately secured the civilian aircraft.
According to the police ‘Cartenz Peaceful Operation’ spokesperson, Commissioner Donny Charles Go, the shots fired by the separatists damaged the aircraft’s fuselage but fortunately did not claim any lives.
“There were two bullet marks on the plane’s fuselage but no victims were reported,” said Donny on April 14.
He assured the public that security personnel is currently hunting down the people responsible for the incident. This case comes after local separatists allegedly attacked the Trigana Air plane as it was landing and taking off at the Nop Goliat Dekai airport in Yahukimo, Papua.
The Papua separatists had also attacked the Smart Aviation PK-SNG aircraft loaded with cargo when it arrived at Bilogai Airport, Intan Jaya Regency, from Mimika Regency on Tuesday, March 7.
