TEMPO.CO, Semarang - The police arrested five people staging a protest against the Job Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja) in front of the office complex for Central Java Governor and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) on Jalan Pahlawan, Semarang City, on Thursday, April 13. They are taken to the Semarang Police Headquarters.
“Five of our colleagues joining the protest are detained,” said the rally’s field coordinator, Junaidin, in front of the Semarang Police HQ.
Hundreds of demonstrators then gathered in front of the Semarang Police HQ, demanding the police release them immediately.
Initially, protesters from Gerakan Rakyat Menggugat (Geram) started demonstrating in front of the Central Java Governor and DPRD’s office at around 14:00 local time. Their arrival was greeted by a barbed wire fence installed by the police at the front gate.
The masses then broke through the barbed wire barricade, knocked down the gate, and pushed their way into the office courtyard. The action was then responded to by the arrest of several protesters.
Based on preliminary data, the rally’s participants who were arrested are students at Semarang State University, Diponegoro University, and Sultan Agung Islamic University.
