TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The revitalization project of the National Monument or Monas in Central Jakarta will be resumed. Jakarta Regional Secretary's Assistant for Development and Environment, Afan Andriyansah, said that his side will cooperate with the Restoration Assembly Team (TSP) in rejuvenating the monument areas to maintain existing cultural heritage.
“To [maintain] the cultural heritage, we will definitely always be assisted by the restoration team because it is impossible for us to set it aside,” said Afan at the Jakarta City Hall, on Tuesday, April 11.
He said the current revitalization project aimed at increasing the ratio of green spaces in the area. “We want to organize Monas, upgrading the existing green ratio which is now at 50 percent to 64 percent.”
Previously, former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that the central government had given a permit to complete the Medan Merdeka Square or Monas revitalization project which was temporarily suspended.
However, the Rp64.4 billion project came under scrutiny after the pedestrian community found that trees in the area were being cut down.
