TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) facilities needed to be completed before it could be used as the home base of the city’s football club Persija. This is also as suggested by the police.
“[The stadium] has to meet the standards first. The police suggest it,” said Heru Budi at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday, April 3.
Heru Budi said he had no objections if JIS is set as Persija's home base and supported that the stadium be used for the common good. However, the facilities of the football stadium must meet safety standards to be occupied.
“[The stadium] is allowed for all. The more it is benefited the better as there will be more joy and crowds, according to its standard. That makes me happier, so I prepare everything,” he said.
Therefore, the Chief Presidential Secretary planned to personally inspect the stadium which is located in North Jakarta in the near future. “Yes, we are looking for time to go to JIS. Maybe next week.”
The inspection is aimed at directly seeing the access road at JIS which is planned to be widened. “As I have monitored, the area that we can widen is the exit gate. The current entrance and exit gates are located in the same area. If possible, the exit gate is designed in the other area. Even though they are on different alleys with distances but still on the same side,” Heru Budi assessed.
The construction of the JIS commenced on March 14, 2019, and reportedly cost more than Rp4 trillion. The 221,000 square meter stadium that can accommodate 82,000 spectators was inaugurated on July 24, 2022.
