TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia national badminton athlete Syabda Perkasa Belawa was tragically killed in a road accident on Central Java’s Pemalang toll road on Monday, March 20, 2023. According to the Central Java police spokesperson Grand Commissioner Iqbal Alqudusy, the accident occurred at 03:40 AM Western Indonesia Time along the Pemalang Toll road at KM 315 marker.
"Two people died and three other injured in the accident," said Iqbal in a written statement on Monday, March 20, 2023.
The accident occurred when a Toyota Camry , which carries Sabda, traveled exceeding the average speed limit allowed on the toll road and hit a truck.
"It is suspected that the driver was feeling sleepy and hit a truck with registration number AG 8711 V, which was driven by a man identified as SA," Iqbal explained.
Syabda Perkasa Belawa (22) suffered heavy injuries and lacerations on his head and passed away after receiving medical treatment while his mother Anik Sulistyowati (42) was killed at the scene with severe injuries to the head and leg. The driver and two other passengers of the vehicle survived with minor injuries and are being treated at the Al Ikhlas Hospital in Pemalang.
