TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia national badminton athlete Syabda Perkasa Belawa was tragically killed in a road accident on Central Java’s Pemalang toll road on Monday, March 20, 2023. According to the Central Java police spokesperson Grand Commissioner Iqbal Alqudusy, the accident occurred at 03:40 AM Western Indonesia Time along the Pemalang Toll road at KM 315 marker.

"Two people died and three other injured in the accident," said Iqbal in a written statement on Monday, March 20, 2023.

The accident occurred when a Toyota Camry , which carries Sabda, traveled exceeding the average speed limit allowed on the toll road and hit a truck.

"It is suspected that the driver was feeling sleepy and hit a truck with registration number AG 8711 V, which was driven by a man identified as SA," Iqbal explained.
