TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Trade Ministry encourages Indonesian retail businesses to introduce and sell their superior products to the Malaysian market by benefiting from the JD commerce network in the neighboring country.
The ministry’s director of export service development, Miftah Farid, said the commerce was strengthened by cooperation with the Indonesia Retail and Tenant Association (Hippindo) which has signed a deal with Malaysian-based JDMAS Logistics Holding Sdn Bhd.
“Hopefully with this deal, Indonesian retail businesses can optimally use the existing opportunity to introduce and market their superior products in the Malaysian market through the JDMAS Lokapasar platform,” Miftah said in a written statement, quoted on Thursday, March 9.
Indonesia's economic recovery, he opined, is inseparable from growth in the retail trade sector. He refers to the Euromonitor record that the country had 40,377 retail units in 2021, consisting of department stores (toserba), supermarkets, retail forecourts, and hypermarkets.
The retail sector has played a role as a market access provider for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He hopes that the collaboration of the retail sector and MSME actors can boost the quality and competitiveness through the development of MSME ready-to-export products.
On the other hand, Miftah assessed that digital technology has contributed to rising public spending through commerce. Bank Indonesia noted that the value of electronic trade transactions (e-commerce) in 2022 reached Rp476.3 trillion.
Therefore, Miftah emphasized that such potential must be used to boost exports of Indonesian products to foreign markets. “The Trade Ministry will keep supporting business actors to expand their market and increase the value of exports of their products,” he concluded.
