Indonesian Police Join Forces with Google to Prepare for Eid Homecoming

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Traffic Police are working with Google in preparing information on the traffic route for this year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming or mudik. The police will add a number of information service data owned by traffic units to connect with Google Maps.

"We will have additional features such as security posts, service posts, rest areas. Hopefully the public can use them properly, this will also make it easier for us as related stakeholders," head of traffic operations Eddy Djunaedi said as quoted from the police's NTMC web page, Wednesday, March 8th.

Eddy said that this collaboration will help the public in deciding their road trips back to their hometowns by looking at Google Maps, both via toll and non-toll routes. In addition, through Google Maps the police can also determine the necessary traffic engineering.

The traffic police will also provide up-to-date traffic information via Google Maps that can be accessed directly by the public. Google will prioritize this information for Google Maps users, especially since it is predicted that this year's volume of mudik travelers will increase.

"The collaboration that we expect from the Traffic Police is what data we will share in order to help people through Google Maps. Our hope is that users can be patient, to ensure that the data is updated, so that they get the latest data needed for making their mudik trips safely and comfortably," Google Maps Indonesia's Strategic Partnerships' Geo manager Galuh Rohmah said.
